4% of all Virginians have a vision impairment, and an estimated 5-20% of the U.S. Population have dyslexia. As these numbers grow, libraries will have to find ways of helping their members read. Traditional employee onboarding is boring. But what if it became a first step towards building a more inclusive institutional culture? This session analyzes UVA Library’s initial You Belong Here immersive onboarding program, using employee entrance surveys, library climate surveys, and session feedback forms, to assess UVA’s successes and FAILS in fostering employee belonging, retention, and familiarity with IDEA principles.
