About me
Deb Smith is Executive Director of the Jones Memorial Library, a specialized genealogy and history library in Lynchburg, Virginia. She has a Master’s in Library and Information Science from Kent State University and is certified by the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media and the Society of American Archivists. Deb's work and writing frequently focuses on discoverability and representation within the archival record. Her work on income inequality and climate change was recognized by the American Library Association. Deb chairs the Phyllis Dain Library History Award committee, serves on the Finance Committee for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference, and is a member of the research committee for Lynchburg’s Silent Witnesses. Her research has appeared in the Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies, DttP: Documents to the People, and the Journal of Slavery and Data Preservation, with reviews forthcoming in Archival Issues and the Mid-Atlantic Archivist.
